Support for civil society in the realisation of a study on norms and practices regarding expropriation, compensation, relocation and resettlement of communities affected by mining projects in the bauxitic region of Guinea

Client : GIZ

Region / Country: Africa | Guinea
Services: Studies
Client category: Cooperation agencies

Mission:

The first step of the mission consisted in analysing the legal framework associated with Resettlement Action Plan (RAP) implementation. Six mining projects were then studied and surveyed, and the concerned stakeholders consulted for each project. These two steps enabled us to produce an assessment of practices implemented by the different projects, as well as a list of recommendations. In addition, one objective was to reinforce capacities of the civil society involved into the research team, managed by an International Expert. The six projects studied are located in the bauxitic region of Guinea, in Boké and Boffa prefectures.

Results:

The following deliverables were provided to the client:

  • A progress report
  • The study report
  • A workshop with all the actors concerned by the mining sector
  • The tools used for data collection
  • All the documents collected during the study
  • The register and contacts of the stakeholders
  • The minutes of interviews and discussions with stakeholders
