Final evaluation of the ProTana project for Fert

Jan 2022 | News from Insuco

In 2013, a study by the Indian Ocean Commission indicated that Madagascar could play the role of “food basket” of the Indian Ocean, yet 35% of the rural population of Madagascar is affected by severe food insecurity (WFP & UNICEF). In this context, community-based agricultural advisory services play an important role in the development of services adapted to the needs of producers.

Insuco was commissioned to carry out the final evaluation of the ProTana project implemented by Fert and the Malagasy agricultural organisations Fifata, Cap Malagasy and Ceffel in Madagascar. The ProTana project aimed to develop an agricultural advisory system in 42 communes around the Malagasy capital in order to structure the supply of fruit, vegetables and gasy chicken.
